Exhibit to have ‘innovation’ theme plus highlights closed loop or Cradle to Cradle manufacturing process using post-consumer PET or rPET.

Faerch will be focusing on its wide range of innovative plastics packaging products for the meat, fish & poultry sector at Interpack 2014. These include trays manufactured from MAPET® II, a specially developed recycled material for top sealing of fresh meat, and the UltraZap®XtendaPak* absorber pad which limits bacteria growth and helps extend shelf life by up to two days. Plus a variety of eye-catching CPET, PP and APET containers for ready meals and cold foods & snacks will be featured. The company will also be highlighting its unrivalled reputation for innovation and closed loop – Cradle to Cradle – manufacturing process using post-consumer PET, or rPET.
MAPET® II has been designed by Faerch to facilitate easy top sealing of fresh meat or fish and to eliminate the risk of contamination from juices. MAPET® II provides the same properties as multi-layer materials but offers better sealability and protection, as well as being easier to sort for recycling.
Produced from post-consumer recycled materials, MAPET® II has a very low environmental footprint and is suitable for prepacking in a protected atmosphere. It has a temperature range of -40 °C to +70 °C and offers glass clarity for added on shelf appeal.
Faerch’s Ultrazap®XtendaPak is a new type of absorber. Placed underneath the packaged product, it limits bacteria growth while keeping the juice away from the meat. Laboratory tests combined with customer feedback has clearly demonstrated this helps extend shelf life by up to two days. Plus the meat or fish stays looking fresh in appearance right up to the expiry date.
The Ultrazap®XtendaPak is activated when the meat or fish begins releasing juices. The absorber then slowly emits CO2 over several days, keeping the bacteria level low and improving the meat’s ability to retain its juices.
Faerch’s CPET (Crystalline Polyethylene Terephthalate) containers are aimed at the ready meal sector and are available in a wide range of colours, styles and sizes, including a high strength ‘Frost’ pack for unrivalled impact and crush resistance at low temperatures, making them ideal for frozen food products.
Recently launched ‘Dual Colour’ CPET trays are primarily aimed at the premium convenience food market and oven to table lines in particular. They feature one colour on the outside surface and another on the inside, offering retailers and manufacturers a major point of difference, as well as maximum on-shelf impact and brand appeal.
With dual ovenability and a broad temperature tolerance from -40°F (-40°C) degrees to 430°F (220°C) degrees, CPET is suitable for freezer-to-oven or microwave convenience, and eliminates negative effects on food flavour and aroma, giving consumers better protected, more versatile and better tasting meals. A top layer of co-extruded APET ensures extremely good sealing properties and a superb glossy appearance.
Faerch’s innovative packaging for cold foods and snacks is typically produced from high clarity APET (Amorphous Polyethylene Terephthalate) or PP (polypropylene) and is available in a plethora of designs, such as standard or hinged lids and perforated, snap packs which can be easily separated into individual portions for extra convenience.
The ‘Re-lock’ tray incorporates a recloseable feature comprising an integral peelable film rather than a separate or hinged lid, saving on the amount of material used, leading to cost savings as well as more environmentally-friendly packaging.  Available in three designs, the range is ideal for fruit, salad, dips and cold meats, where consumers like to see the contents in order to assess its freshness.
Faerch will also be highlighting its closed loop or Cradle to Cradle process for the manufacture of food trays from post-consumer recycled PET, or rPET.  Food grade rPET flakes are purchased from two of the UK’s top plastic recycling companies and further cleaning, as well as careful control of the extrusion and thermoforming process at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in the North East of England helps ensure maximum recycled content.
For a completely closed loop, Faerch has been heavily involved in a project aimed at making black trays more recyclable. CPET ID is a revolutionary new packaging material which will allow trays produced from black CPET to be sorted in the mixed plastics waste stream, for the first time ever.
